Beyond the Garden I

 

 As I've stated before, I hate orange.  Yellow isn't that far behind.  I know, I know.  It's the colour of sunshine, it's cheery, blah blah blah.  I just don't like it that much.  However, the new DSP from Stampin' Up has lessened my negative feelings towards this primary subtractive shade.

Just Can't Get Enough

In the new Summer Mini there's a beautiful new set called Fabulous Florets.  I've been playing with it like mad and can't seem to get enough of it.  I originally started this card with the intent of using the new DSP (Beyond the Garden) but loved the pattern created using the colour scheme from one of the sheets so I used it as a background instead.  This Melon Mambo and Wild Wasabi version was created on Friday while I was crafting with some ladies from work. 

This afternoon I started out with the same goal in mind, use new DSP, and ended up making pretty much the same card, but with Pacific Point instead of Melon Mambo.  I even ended up using the Square Lattice embossing folder again.  On Friday afternoon I had made another card like the top one, and I had forgotten that I'd used the set for a background design.  I pulled it out to compare to this one, and had a little giggle at myself for making what is pretty much exactly the same card.  Like I said, I just can't get enough of this set.

Springtime Vintage

In continuation using the Springtime Vintage paper, I came up with these 2 cards in an instant.  I love the different effects you can get from using different cardstocks.  The Rose Red made the first card super girly, while the Sahara Sand background of the other created a more gentle effect.  You can see my Decorative Label punch has made it onto two cards in a row.  I just got it and love love love it.

Bold Mother's Day

It seems that all of the Mother's Day cards that I've been seeing are traditional girly colours.  I've finally had a chance to get back into my room after report card time, and I had some time to play with the Springtime Vintage DSP.  This gorgeous floral pattern is still girly, but the background colours give it a more bold punch than traditional pinks usually found on Mom's day stuff.

I am the world's worst blogger.  It's been a busy few weeks at work since returning from Spring Break, and I haven't really gotten much of a chance to play in my room.

Just a quick one before getting to work this morning though.

I wanted to check out the seam binding ribbon that SU sells so I ordered in my favourite - Crumb Cake - and was pleasantly surprised.  The texture's not what I expected, but it looks really nice and antique-ish.  Anyways, paired with Bashful Blue and Very Vanilla, it made a nice gentle combo for an elegant Thank You card.

Colour Coach - Wild Wasabi

I didn't get a whole lot of time to play this week, which was especially sad since I got some new toys, one being Puns From the Past.  This set is just too cute.  Being an English major, and a bit of a nerd, I really like the set.  I love how cherry the So Saffron makes this card.  Works nicely with the other subtle tones.

 I tend not to make a whole lot of cards with masculine colours, so this other combination worked really well.  The stamp isn't like so many of my bird and flower combos, so it was the perfect touch.  I still felt like it needed a little embellishing so I went with folded ribbon.  Something extra, but simple and clean to go with the masculine vibe.

Yearning for Spring

 

As the grass is starting to show from under the piles of melting snow (sad and brown though it is), I started thinking about my garden.  This paper was just too cute to pass by and the cheery pattern fits a friendly birthday card perfectly.
