Create With Connie & Mary #210 - Storybook Friends
It's Farmer's Market day tomorrow, so I've been busily creating to stock up a little. I had a few people ask for baby cards last week, and I was lacking in that department, so here I am making a few for my stash.
I'd seen a card in a magazine a while back that did this paper piecing with the top note and have been meaning to do it. Over at Create With Connie & Mary there's a colour challenge this week that works perfectly for both purposes. The colours a similar to the pallet used in Stampin' Up's Storytime DSP. I haven't purchased a package of that paper yet, but it's moving to the top of my list.
I made a baby card using another of the images from this set (Storybook Friends) a while ago but thought the little bunny with the wand was too cute to pass up. On a funny note - it actually says "Surprise!" underneath the image - which I thought would be HILARIOUS on a baby card, but something tells me it might not be so funny to everyone else, so I suck with a generic sentiment instead.

Mosaic II + Colour Throwdown 184
I'm trying a new challenge this weekend with Colour Throwdown. The sun is shining and the snow is melting, so this combo was perfect to match the spring mood. I don't use the subtles all that much, so using so many of them here was certainly a challenge for me.
Yesterday I discovered the mosaic technique, and this morning I made a HUGE mosaic. It's got to be 5" X 6". This might not seem very big, but cutting and gluing all of those little pieces in place was no small task. It took me the better part of an hour to do it, but I'm happy that I've got one now. I think that I will be using it a lot. Next week I'm going to try using different inks on it to make backgrounds.
In keeping with the spring mood, I chose Simply Soft for my stamping. The flowers are lovely, and they lend themselves nicely to messy colouring. I stamped the images in Certainly Celery, and then used my So Saffron and Marina Mist markers to fill in the petals. Elegant Eggplant was used to make the mosaic.
It took a little bit of playing, but I finally ended up with Four Frames and a nice button to cap it all off. The sentiment that I've used comes from Petite Pairs. If you don't have that set yet, you should add it to your wish list. There are a variety of great little sayings in there, and the layout of them allows you to use with a variety of shapes of punches.

Mixed Bunch
I have a couple of workshops this weekend and pulled out Mixed Bunch to play with. This set is great for versatility. I wanted to showcase how you don't need a hundred sets to make a good variety of cards, and this certainly did the trick.
This one is great for showing off what you can do with different textures. One of the ladies "messed up" (her words, not mine) and used the Perfect Polka Dots folder on the base layer and the Vintage Wall Paper on the top layer. I actually like how hers turned out better than mine! :)
This next one's a little more striking with the bold colours. I think this one would work just as well for a wedding/anniversary card too.
I originally wanted to make this one with Bashful Blue, but I was out of that so I used Pool Party instead. Turns out Poppy Parade and Pool Party make me happy when they're together. This card is pure fun and sure to put a smile on the receiver's face.
Don't forget that Sale-a-bration is in full swing! For every $60 order you place you get to choose an item from the SAB catty for FREEEEEEEEEE!!!! I'll also be entering customer's names in a draw with each order, and pull a winner on the last day of each month of SAB. Girls' Night (well, evening anyways - we're not spring chickens anymore!)
Tonight I had a few girls from my Stamp Club come over to use my tools try out their new goodies. Eating baked brie with roasted garlic and drinking wine is about the only thing I can think of that makes stamping even better than it already is. This is really the first time venturing into crafting for one of my friends, so she took a little while to get going. "I like it when we have the class and you have everything ready for us and just tell us what to do." I smiled a little. But after the first hour or so she was in full swing and made some really cute cards. They each ended up making three cards, but I ended up with only one. I will always choose helping someone else try something new over making my own cards on nights like these.
Anywho, here's what I ended up with. I've had Fox and Friends sitting around for quite some time now but hadn't felt the mood strike me up until now. I took the colour combo from the holiday mini (you have to wait until September to see!). There's a beautiful new paper and fabric series called Spice Cake. I never would have thought to put these unlikely partners together, but they look really beautiful. The lighting's a bit poor in this picture, but you get the idea. I think I'll try this card again in a girly pallet too.
