Mojo Monday 249 - You're Amazing

What a busy weekend.  My dear cousin's step-dad passed away last week so we were busy this weekend with a memorial service for him.  Rather than than the traditional cry-your-eyes out type of service (which would not have been his style) we had more pf a party.  We decorated the hall with mementos from his life, and shared stories to make everyone laugh.  Quite a send off.

Did I mention it's been SWELTERING here lately?  All of this was done in a hall that did not have AC, so I've been sweaty and sticky for two days straight.

I'm home today however, and staying in my craft room for the remainder of the day.  It's scorching hot outside, but my room is in the garage where it's nice and cool.  Even the pets have found their way out here to try and escape the heat.

Today's card uses the Mojo Monday sketch as a base for this birthday card.  The elephant and ticket stamp are from You're Amazing.  It's a super fun little set that I think I'll get some good mileage out of.  The balloon is really neat too, and I thought about using that, but I wanted an image that I could colour.  (See following post for a lesson on colouring.)   The paper is from Birds of a Feather (also used on another card last week).  I'm still a little sad about losing Poppy Parade to make room for the new In Colours this year, but they're certainly growing on me.  The base of the card is Summer Starfruit, and the panel base is Raspberry Ripple.  That luscious ribbon is the Stitched Satin in Primrose Petals.  Island Indigo also makes an appearance on the DSP base.

Mojo Monday #248

I love summertime.  Any other time of the year I rarely have time to get to a Mojo Monday sketch on time.  Today however, I made three journals, two bookmarks, and a mojo card, all before 1:00pm!  I feel like a crafting glutton.

One of the things I love about Stampin' Up DSP is the inspiration for colour schemes.  Comfort Cafe is one of the releases in this year's catty and it contains a combination of colours I probably wouldn't think of on my own.  This sketch was perfect for a bunch of different patterns and textures so I took advantage of that to try out the new Chevron embossing folder.  I can see myself using this one a lot.  The Stitched Satin ribbon with this year's In Colours is rich and lovely and added the perfect finish.

Mojo Monday 233 - Everybunny

Mojo Monday on time 2 weeks in a row!  I hosted a card buffet this afternoon and I wasn't sure if I was going to get to this sketch on time, but I did!  Usually I just hang out and help or demonstrate techniques during a card buffet, but today I actually got to do a bit of stamping.

 That consisted of stamping and colouring this image only, but it's more than I usually do.  I am pretty much in love with this cute little guy (whom I have named Belvedere).  After I stamped and coloured the images I put them on my desk and did my clean up after the ladies were all gone.  I came back into the house, downloaded this week's sketch and knew I could use my newly stamped image!

I chose some pretty traditional Easter colours and swapped out the strip of scalloped paper for the decadent pleated satin.  I don't usually make card that have all of the paper and images flat, so the ribbon and flower gave me some much needed dimension.  Tomorrow I think I'll play with this set a little more and see what else I can come up with.

Needed More Mojo

For the Mojo Monday challenge yesterday I used Twitterpated.  I was not terribly in love with the card, but I convinced myself that I liked it well enough.  However, upon entering my craftroom this morning, I realized that I still felt it was lacking something, so I pulled the paper out again and began playing.

I have a binder on my desk with old sketches on it that I wanted to get to, but never did.  I flipped through this morning and found this layout.  It gave me a few options for displaying the different patterns, so I went for it.  Mother's Day isn't right around the corner, but I figured it would be a good time to make my cards up now so I am not scrambling later on.

I'm MUCH happier with this card.  I recently purchased the Textured Impressions pads and pulled them out to have a little play.  I just wanted something subtle in the background, and the Damask print was perfect for this DSP.  I added a few of the coordinating buttons to finish it off, and voila!  1 mum's day card down, 1 to go.

Mojo Monday 232

It's the first Monday of SPRING BREAK!  This means that I get to stay in bed until I feel like getting up (which, incidentally, was 5:50am this morning so I could take a colleague to the bus to Vancouver en route to Italy).

So after I crawled out of my cocoon the second time I meandered into my craft room and started my morning surfing.   I've had a package of Twitterpated sitting around that I haven't used yet, and this sketch practically yelled it out.

I'm a big fan of Very Vanilla, and hardly ever use white.  It's just so...bright.  Glaring.  Stark.  White.  That said, this was quite a challenge for me.  However much I dislike that palest of shades, I'm pretty happy with this one overall.  I haven't added a sentiment yet, but I feel like it would be nice for Mother's Day.

Mojo Monday 231

What's this?!  A card before work?!  How unusual!  I am an early-riser.  Even when I don't have to be.  So even though I don't have to be at work until almost 9:00, I was still up at 6:00.  That left me time to make a card!  I never have time during the week to play with Mojo Monday while it's still current, so I was VERY excited this morning when I have the chance.

SAB is coming to an end this month so I am trying to use up the paper while it's still current, and this layout was perfect for showcasing all of the coordinating patterns.  I'm also in love with rolled roses right now, so I got two birds with one stone on this one.

Mojo Monday 199 (on a Tuesday)

 

I love having two months off in the summer.  However, one tends to forget what day it is when it doesn't really matter.  Thus, Mojo Monday - on a Tuesday.  I looked at the site yesterday and thought that I couldn't want to actually get to do another MM on the right day (spring break was the last time this happened).  Then I opened the page this morning, and it's the same layout.  Weird?  Maybe they're late?  Nope.  I don't know what day it is.  Apparently yesterday was Monday?  News to me!  Anyways, here it is!  Mojo Monday 199.

Is it really Monday again already?  I have no idea where the last week went.  Oh, yes I do.  I've spent it in my craft room.  My husband is out of town right now and it looks like my craft room has barfed everywhere.  Usually I try and keep it somewhat tidy, but for the past few days I've been like an irresponsible teenager when the parents are away.  I'm loving it.

I haven't used my Elements of Style set in a while, and it's my favourite one, so I thought this would be a good time to pull it out again.  I wanted to try a couple of colour schemes out with this layout, and here are the results.

I've been looking EVERYWHERE for my Colour Coach (thought I would never use it, but I always do...), and it turns out it was in my work bag.  I pulled it out and wanted to do something with Marina Mist, but a little different than the greens or yellows that I would naturally pair it with.  Cajun Craze showed up on my CC to pair with MM and I am in LOVE.  This is an unexpected pair, but I think it's pretty great.  Thanks Colour Coach.

Mojo Monday Sketch 182

I'm going out on a limb here and posting this card to Mojo Monday.  There are soooo many talented paper artists on here that I'm a little nervous (and feeling like an imposter!) but I'm doing it anyways.  Each Moday there's a new sketch that you can use to design a card around.  I've been looking at it for months and making cards from the sketches, so its high time I take the plunge and enter my own.

This paper is exquisite and I bought several pieces of each pattern I liked it so much.  This seemed like the perfect card to showcase it.  Hope you enjoy it!

Originally I made the card on the right in the photo below, but I thought it needed a little extra.  I like the extra dimension the paper flower adds.
