A La Card Monkey #102

Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  Back to real life after a glorious 2 week spring break.  So much for doing three sketches per week!  I'll try and get back on track this week though.  To start things off I've done a challenge from A La Card Monkey.  Easter is this week's theme, and I needed another card so it worked out quite well.

I know I've already posted a few cards with this set (Everybunny) but it's just so darn cute that I can't help myself.  Plus, I'll have to put it away for another year now, so I wanted to get my fill.  I used Nursery Nest as my DSP and then the coordinating markers to fill in my image.  I seem to be on a blender pen kick right now.

A La Card Monkey #100

I've been wanting to make a giant cupcake for sometime now, so when I saw this sketch I knew it was fate!  Just looking at this card makes my teeth hurt, thinking of the ooey, gooey icing applied in copious amounts to any respectable cupcake.

I chose a sweet colour scheme to build my card on.  Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, and Chocolate Chip (of course!).  The whimsy swirls of Curly Cute seemed the perfect match.  Some Vanilla Smooth and Dazzling Diamonds add a little glitz to this sugary number.  Now all it needs is a big glass of milk.

A La Card Monkey #99

Buttons.  Hmm.  I have mixed feelings about these little embellishments.  My style doesn't usually include buttons; however, last summer I ran a couple of button shares so that I could get large quantities of a few colours.  I ended up with more colours left over than I wanted, so into the embellishment drawer they went.

When I saw this sketch this morning it was the perfect time to pull those suckers out and dust them off.  Their turn in the spotlight.  It took me a bit of playing around to get this card exactly how I wanted it, but I'm happy with the end result.

A La Card Monkey Guest!

For the past few weeks I've been playing with the sketches from the girls over at A La Card Monkey.  Imagine my delight when I opened my email to find an invitation to be a guest designer for one of their challenges!  I squealed with pleasure and immediately told my husband.  He probably couldn't have cared less, but he pretended to be excited.  I was left unsatisfied, so I called my best friend who reacted exactly how I hoped.  She squealed too.  Much better.

 

I bought the Curly Label punch for myself quite a while back, but it hadn't yet found its way onto any of my cards.  Perhaps this is because I love my Decorative Label punch so much, so when I saw it on the sketch I had the perfect opportunity to pull it out.

 

I wanted to showcase the Sale-a-bration paper Everyday Enchantment and this layout let me use a couple of the designs.  I was also able to slip in the large image from Fresh Vintage (it's in the background, under the sentiment).  The sentiment was just a little too stark up against the Very Vanilla layered on Poppy Parade, so I used Pool Party and stamped the image off once to make it a little less bright.

A La Card Monkey #96

I love challenge blogs that post later in the week.  I can't find time to craft for challenges that close before Saturday, so the Card Monkey challenges are great for me.

As soon as I saw "moments" on the sketch I knew which set was coming out to play!  My dear friend, Elements of Style.  I love this set for two reasons:  a)  It's stunning  and  b)  It doesn't judge me for eating almost a whole bowl of Turtle Cheesecake dip in one sitting (I did also use about two whole apples to scoop it up with, though I cannot lie and say I didn't think about using a spoon).

A La Card Monkey #95

One of my husband's friends texted me yesterday asking if he could get me to make a Valentine's Day card for him.  Pretty sweet.  So this morning I was playing around with a few different styles when I found this cute Card Monkey sketch.  I loved the layout and though it was perfect for using the new Hearts Framelits.  It's a really simple card, but really sweet as well.

This card has nothing to do with the Card Monkey sketch, but I had the frame from the previous card and I wanted to use it somehow.  I also have 800 of these tiny little hearts left over, so I figured this was a good way to use some up.

A La Card Monkey 90

After I spent a luxurious two hours on the couch reading, sipping coffee, and snuggling with the pets, I finally decided to get dressed and do something productive.  By productive, I meant fun.  So into the craft room I went!  I knew I wanted to continue working with my new Attic Boutique, so I poked around for some sketches.  A La Card Monkey won this week.  I love love LOVE the colour combos on this DSP.

A La Card Monkey Sketch

As I sat looking out into my backyard this morning sipping a cup of Christmas Blend (and a touch of Hazelnut syrup), I thought about how much I love winter in the Cariboo.  I don't love that it lasts until April, but winter here, cold as it may be, is still sunny.  There are only a few inches of snow in the yard right now, and it's definitely chilly, but the sun is shining as brightly as it does on any day in July.  The smell of wood stoves is drifting through the neighbourhood, and I'm getting set to haul out the ornaments and put the tree up.

I wanted to make another Christmas card (my list seems to be getting longer each time I look at it) but wasn't feeling terribly inspired.  I headed over to the Card Monkey blog and used it to get the juices flowing.  I don't love Riding Hood Red, so I felt like I needed to give it a chance to shine.  I think it worked out quite well with this little sketch.
